Sport and Hospitality Management (Minor)
This minor prepares students for a career in the sport and hospitality industries. Students will gain a conceptual and practical understanding of the major opportunities and challenges within these significant components of the US and global economies.
Students have the opportunity to select one of two tracks within the minor.
- The Hospitality Management track embraces the importance of that industry within economy of the Greater Washington, D.C. region as well as the fact that this area is the home of the corporate headquarters of Marriott, Hilton, and Choice Hotels. Further, Marymount’s innovative partnership with Placemakr, a leader in the extended stay hotel industry, enables students to experience a learning laboratory on campus within our Rixey Center.
- The Sport Management track provides students with a focus on marketing, law, economics, strategy, and promotions within a sports context. Students will learn the planning, organizing, managing, and budgeting aspects of a department or organization whose main purpose is related to sports or physical activities. Graduates with the Sport Management track are prepared for a variety of positions in all levels of sports, including recreation, private and public athletics, amateur sports, school/college athletics, and professional sports.
Minimum Grade Requirements: A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better is required for courses in the minor.
Residency Requirement: Students must complete at least 12 credits of the minor requirements at Marymount.
