New First-Year Students
Welcome to Marymount! YOU BELONG HERE!
Welcome to your first year at Marymount University! Living on campus is an essential part of the student experience, offering you a welcoming, vibrant, and supportive environment that will serve as the foundation for your academic success and personal growth. Our residence halls are more than just places to sleep and study—they’re communities designed to help you thrive.
Why Choose On-Campus Living?
Living on campus means being at the heart of Marymount’s close-knit community. It’s about connecting with fellow students, engaging in campus events, and building lifelong friendships—all while enjoying convenient access to classes, dining, and university resources. As a first-year student, you’ll find everything you need to immerse yourself in college life and create unforgettable memories fully.
Housing Options for First-Year Students
Marymount University offers a variety of room options tailored to meet the unique needs of first-year students. Our first-year housing options include Rowley Hall and Gerard Hall, each offering a comfortable and engaging living experience.
Rowley Hall
Rowley Hall features three room types, each providing a different blend of space, privacy, and comfort:
- Standard Double
A traditional two-person room with all the essentials, including twin beds, desks, chairs, and storage. This option is ideal for students who enjoy a classic college roommate experience in a cozy, affordable space. - Double Partially Extended
A step up from the standard double, offering a bit more room for those who value additional space for studying or relaxing. It provides a comfortable balance between affordability and added space. - Double Fully Extended
The most spacious option, this room type offers extra square footage, giving you the flexibility to arrange your space as you like. Fully extended doubles are in high demand, so we recommend applying early if this is your top choice!
Gerard Hall
First-year students can also select Gerard Hall as a residence option. Gerard Hall offers only the Standard Double room type, a cozy shared space for two students with essential furnishings, making it an affordable and welcoming choice for first-year students. Located near key campus facilities like the Main Dining Room, Student Engagement offices, and Campus Ministry, Gerard Hall combines convenience and community.
Housing Options for Transfer Students
If you are a transfer student who is 20 years old, additional housing options are available to you beyond first-year halls. Depending on your preference and availability, you may be able to choose from Berg Hall, Butler Hall, or Ostapenko Hall:
- Single rooms in these halls are limited and generally prioritized for upperclass students or those with approved medical accommodations.
- New first-year students typically have at least one direct roommate, creating opportunities for building connections within the Marymount community.
How to Choose and Rank Your Room Preferences
Selecting the right room type is easy and straightforward, and we encourage you to think about which option will best support your needs and lifestyle.
1. Explore What Each Room Type Offers
Each residence hall and room type is designed to offer a unique living experience:
- Standard Double (Rowley Hall or Gerard Hall): Great for students who want a traditional, affordable shared space.
- Double Partially Extended (Rowley Hall): Offers a bit more room than the standard double, making it ideal for those who prefer a balance of space and cost.
- Double Fully Extended (Rowley Hall): The largest double option with extra space, perfect for students who prioritize comfort and flexibility.
Consider your habits and preferences—do you like extra room to spread out, or are you comfortable with a cozier setup? All rooms come fully furnished, so no matter which option you choose, you’ll have everything you need to settle in comfortably.
2. Rank Your Preferences Carefully
To give yourself the best chance of securing a room that suits you, rank up to five room options in your order of preference, listing your top choices first. We make assignments based on availability and the preferences you select:
- Prioritize what’s most important to you: Whether it’s extra space, affordability, or a mix of both, list your preferred room types first.
- Don’t select only singles: Single rooms are limited and are generally assigned to upperclass students or those with approved medical accommodations. If you only select singles and we do not have any available, you may be placed in a double with a roommate to accommodate your housing request.
3. Apply Early for Best Availability
Fully extended doubles in Rowley Hall are popular and may not be available for all applicants, so we recommend applying as early as possible if this is your preferred choice. Assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis, so completing your application early increases your chances of securing your top room preferences.
4. Reach Out for Help
If you need guidance, our Office of Student Living team is here to answer questions and help you make a selection that fits your goals. We’re committed to supporting you in choosing a room that will make Marymount feel like home.
