Cost Sharing
Cost Sharing (sometimes call matching funds) is a portion of allowable project costs that are not charged to the external sponsor. Marymount University bears the responsibility of paying these costs.
Cost sharing must be for allowable costs which are necessary, reasonable, allocable, and proper to accomplish the project. The costs must be verifiable from Marymount’s accounting records; therefore, supporting documentation must be maintained for these costs and the costs must be tracked in the Marymount accounting system under the award. These costs are not paid by the sponsor and may not be reported as contributions from another sponsored project, specifically federal project.
Cost sharing may be required by the sponsor. It may be a fixed amount or a percentage of the overall project costs. If cost sharing is required, discuss with Office of Sponsored Programs prior to preparing an application for funding.
