All About SI Leaders

SI Leaders are students who help others succeed in a particular course by facilitating group sessions at least twice a week.

SI Leader Responsibilities

  • Attend classes for the course they lead
  • Read course materials
  • Promote SI to students
  • Create group session plans
  • Facilitate at least 2 SI Sessions each week using collaborative & active-learning methods
  • Participate in training sessions
  • Build rapport with students
  • Work with faculty to plan for sessions
  • Provide feedback after sessions
  • Assist students with study skills and university resources
  • Be a role model
  • Take a one-credit hour, university-funded tutor training. SI Leaders should try to take the class during the first semester of working with the Student Academic Hub, but no later than the second semester.

Qualifications

  • Be registered as a full-time student
  • Commit to working a full semester, ideally the entire academic year
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • B or higher in course subject
  • Be recommended by a faculty member

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel at the intermediate level
  • Proficiency with Zoom and Canvas
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills

How to Apply

  1. Log into Workday, type “Find student jobs” in the main search bar, and find the job posting titled “Peer Tutor”
  2. Submit an application through Workday with your resume
  3. Applications are reviewed and applicants may be invited to attend an interview with the Student Academic Hub
  4. The Student Academic Hub will make offers as supported classes are selected, faculty agree to partner with the SI program, and SI Leader positions become available
