Dr. Sara Pappa, a Marymount Center for Optimal Aging (MCOA) research affiliate and expert in falls prevention and healthy aging, is sharing her expertise with national media and federal policymakers this month. Dr. Pappa is a member of the Executive Committee of the Virginia Arthritis and Falls Prevention Coalition, and she is involved in regional falls prevention initiatives, including leading the Northern Virginia Falls Prevention Alliance.
Last Tuesday, September 1st, 2025, Dr. Pappa was featured on the Aging Matters Podcast, where she discussed the importance of fall risk awareness and prevention strategies for older adults. The episode went live last Tuesday, and it is available to listen to now on Apple Podcast, Spotify, RedCircle, and Mixcloud.
Dr. Pappa’s advocacy work continues this week, on Wednesday, September 17th, as she heads to Washington, D.C., to join the National Council on Aging (NCOA) for a Congressional Briefing on Capitol Hill. During the briefing, the NCOA will be unveiling the National Falls Prevention Action Plan, a nationwide initiative designed to reduce the growing rate of fall-related injuries and emergencies among older adults.
The MCOA commends Dr. Pappa’s leadership, and we encourage community members to tune into Dr. Pappa’s Aging Matters Podcast and continue to follow updates on the rollout of the National Falls Prevention Action Plan later this month.
