Northern Virginia Community College
Marymount University presents a unique opportunity for transfer students – students who come to Marymount having already completed a transfer-oriented Associates Degree from Northern Virginia Community College do not need to complete any additional general education requirements at Marymount (called the “Liberal Arts Core” at Marymount) other than one theology course (TRS 100). Transfer students can therefore focus on their major – and in many cases add a semester-long study abroad experience and a minor if they wish – and still graduate just four semesters after transferring (even if they have never taken any previous political science courses while in community college).
Below is a sample degree plan for the Political Science and International Relations major for students who complete their first two years at NVCC and their second two years at Marymount. This plan assumes that the student does not complete an Associates Degree at NVCC; students who do complete an Associates Degree will be exempted from many of the courses listed here. All students must consult with an advisor in making course selections that meet their individual needs. We encourage current NVCC students planning to transfer to Marymount to reach out to Marymount Political Science and International Relations faculty as they plan their courses at NVCC.
