CMHC Community Training-Clinic
The Marymount University School of Counseling Clinical Mental Health Counseling Clinic (the CMHC Clinic) serves two important functions. First, the CMHC Clinic is an essential part of the clinical training for Masters-level graduate counselors-in-training in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) and Clinical Mental Health Counseling (with a concentration in Pastoral Clinical Mental Health Counseling) programs at Marymount University (and the Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision with projected admissions date for fall 2024). The CACREP-accredited M.A. programs in CMHC prepare counselors-in-training with the requisite skills, knowledge, and clinical experiences to become competent, ethical, multicultural counselors. Second, the CMHC Clinic seeks to provide a needed service to the community by providing equitable clinical mental health counseling services to diverse populations across Virginia.
The goal of the CMHC Clinic is to increase mental health care equity and assist in eliminating the stigma surrounding mental health among marginalized communities by providing free counseling services that can be accessed via telehealth in the Commonwealth of Virginia and in-person mental health services for the community. Using similar national professional standards for clinics developed by Counselor Education and Supervision programs, the CMHC Clinic will utilize School of Counseling counselors-in-training under faculty and staff supervision to provide clinical mental health services to individuals, couples, and families who experience mental health symptoms and stressors and across diverse populations and settings.
