Transfer FAQs

How many credits can I transfer to Marymount?

Answer
Marymount University  will accept a maximum of 64 credit hours from freshman- and sophomore-level courses and an additional 20 credit hours from junior- or senior-level courses. Marymount generally accepts credits for courses completed with a grade of C or higher at other regionally accredited institutions of higher education. How many interior design credits can I transfer to Marymount?

Answer
In total, students may transfer a maximum of 33 Interior Design credits for courses completed with a grade of C or higher at other regionally accredited institutions of higher education.

Do I need to submit a placement portfolio?

Answer

The interior design placement portfolio helps us assess your ability to succeed in upper level interior design courses at Marymount University. If you are transferring interior design coursework from another institution, you may need to submit a portfolio.

The following courses (15 credits) do NOT require a placement portfolio.

Students may receive transfer credit for the following Marymount Interior Design courses by earning a C or better in an equivalent course at an accredited institution.

  • VIS-111 Intro to Color and Design (3 credits)
  • VIS-121 Intro to Digital Tools (3 credits)
  • ART 202 Intro to Art History II (3 credits)
  • ID 101 Intro to Interior Design (3 credits)
  • ID 231 Textiles & Finish Materials (3 credits)

The following courses (18 credits) DO require a placement portfolio.

Interior Design transfer students seeking advanced standing must submit a placement portfolio showing examples of work completed in college-level studio courses for some or all of the following ID course requirements:

  • ID 102 Foundation Studio I
  • ID 121 Freehand Drafting
  • ID 122 Sketching & Rendering for Ideas
  • ID 203 Foundation Studio II
  • ID 204 Foundation Studio III
  • ID 223 Presentation Drawings

What should I include in my placement portfolio?

Answer

The placement portfolio will highlight a student’s ability to succeed in Junior level Interior Design courses at Marymount University. The placement portfolio is to be submitted as a physical document or a digital upload.

The portfolio MUST contain the following:

  • At least one projects that represent a student’s strongest work from each course.
  • At least three rendered, three-dimensional drawings generated for a studio project.
  • Work that demonstrates strong evidence of each competency as described in the portfolio evaluation criteria.
