Transfer Credit & Portfolio Information

The Interior Architecture + Design Department and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions are committed to supporting a smooth transfer process for students joining Marymount University.

The information below outlines how undergraduate coursework may transfer into Marymount’s Bachelor of Arts in Interior Architecture + Design program.

Transfer Credit Guidelines

The Interior Architecture + Design Department reviews transfer credit from Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), Montgomery College (MC), and other accredited institutions in accordance with the transfer credit policies outlined in the current Undergraduate Catalog.

Placement Portfolio Requirement

If you are transferring Interior Architecture + Design coursework from another institution, you may be asked to submit a placement portfolio. This portfolio helps us assess your readiness for Marymount’s design curriculum and determine appropriate course placement.

How to Submit Your Portfolio

All portfolios must be submitted digitally:

  1. Upload your materials using this form.
  2. After submitting, please email Prof. Jessica Bonness to schedule a transfer advising appointment.

Portfolio Deadlines

To be considered for transfer credit in time for enrollment, please submit your portfolio by the following deadlines:

  • Fall start: August 1
  • Spring start: December 1

 

Placement Portfolio Requirements by Course

The following courses are eligible for transfer from two-year and four-year institutions. Information about minimum grades and portfolio skills are provided for each course.

Portfolio: Contains work that demonstrates understanding of foundation design principles or design in a non-residential practice area. Projects must include design process work through final presentation drawings or models.

Transfer Requirement: Portfolio and grade of B- or higher in an equivalent course.

Freehand Drafting
Portfolio: Contains work that demonstrates understanding of hand drafting techniques to create architectural drawings. (e.g. plan, elevation, RCP, perspective, isometric, and axonometric drawings)

Sketching and Rendering for Ideas
Portfolio: Contains work that demonstrates understanding of hand rendering techniques in architectural drawings. (e.g. plan, elevation, RCP, perspectives, isometric, and axonometric drawings)

Portfolio: Contains work that demonstrates understanding a design in a non-residential practice area. Projects must include design process work through final presentation drawings or models.

Portfolio: Contains work that demonstrates understanding residential design. Projects must include design process work through final presentation drawings or models.

Presentation Drawings
Portfolio: Contains work that demonstrates understanding of Revit to create architectural presentation drawings. (e.g. plan, elevation, RCP, perspective, and photorealistic rendering). Digital presentation skills are also evaluated with a preference for Adobe InDesign and Illustrator as layout tools.
