Academic Integrity Overview

The Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution has prepared a Quick Guide for instructors.  For further information, see the Academic Integrity Code 2025-2026

The basic steps:

  1. Fill out the Academic Integrity Incident Report.
  2. Conference with the student to discuss the incident and allow the student to fill out the Student Response portion of the Academic Integrity Incident Report.
  3. Report the incident to the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution electronically and include all relevant materials. *Please submit all files as a PDF only*.

Instructors are urged to complete this process (conference and reporting) within two weeks from discovery of a violation. If they are unable to do so, they should forward the incident documents to the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution.

For further information about the AI process, please contact the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution at or 703-908-7669.

Academic Integrity Overview

Marymount University provides access to turnitin.com to help determine the originality of students’ written work. Turnitin.com also provides online grading and peer review functions. Please note that Turnitin is integrated into Canvas for ease of use. Faculty wishing to set up a turnitin.com account should contact the CITE for access information and support.

Turntin.com detects matches. Those matches indicate that the text in the student’s paper is not original. It is up to the instructor to assess if plagiarism has occurred.
