The Business Journal is proud to present our next Power 100 installment, this time featuring 26 nonprofit, medical and insurance and advocacy leaders in a category we call Advocates & Game Changers.

Irma Becerra
President, Marymount University

Irma Becerra, a Cuban-born American who’s served at the helm of the Arlington university since 2018, is one of the few Latina university and college presidents in the U.S., and she led Marymount’s efforts to become the first university in Virginia to earn the Hispanic-Serving Institution designation in 2022. Becerra, who the Business Journal named its 2022 DEI Champion, shepherded a $2.8 million gift from the Reinsch Pierce Family Foundation to fund a new campus center for the Catholic, liberal arts university’s main campus. And, for the first time ever, Marymount landed on Forbes’ list of the top 500 universities in the U.S. this year.
