Students from 27 States, 21 Countries Move into Marymount University

More than 400 students from 27 states and 21 countries moved into Marymount University during the past two days and participated in orientation for the Class of 2022. They were welcomed to campus by Dr. Irma Becerra, who became the seventh president of the University in July.

“It was wonderful to see the spirit on campus as hundreds of new students arrived to begin their Marymount journey today,”” said Becerra. “These young adults have tremendous potential, and we are so pleased to help prepare them for the remarkable things they will do in and for the world.””

International students arrived on campus Tuesday, with other students arriving Wednesday, highlighted by a Move-in Day dinner that evening for all resident students and their families at the top level of the Blue Garage on campus.

“My first impression was, ‘What a beautiful campus!'” said Janelle Renee Briley, a first-year student from Arlington. “I liked seeing the smiles on everyone’s face, from the students to the faculty. There’s so much excitement throughout the campus. I can’t wait for the school year to start!”

Briley said she chose Marymount because of its excellent business program.

“I love it,” said Alisha Morris, who is from Vienna, Virginia but grew up in Japan. “I like the small campus. I can know everyone here, be close to my professors and get a better education.”

“It’s very welcoming and provides a strong sense of community,” said Tim Fialho of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. “I wanted to go somewhere out of state and it has a very good reputation for its criminal justice program.””

The demographic breakdown of Marymount’s Class of 2022 is:
    • 61 percent are female, 39 percent male.
    • 53 percent are minority, 34 percent white, 9 percent international, 3 percent unknown
    • 52 percent are from Virginia, 18 percent Maryland, 9 percent D.C., 21 percent other states (excluding international students)

Classes for the fall semester begin Monday, Aug. 27.
