New Marymount scholarship program announced for Girl Scouts Gold Award recipients

Marymount University is proud to now offer a scholarship to recipients of the Girl Scouts Gold Award, the most prestigious award that Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors can earn.

Beginning with the Fall 2020 semester, Marymount will award up to five one-time, $3,000 scholarships to offset academic expenses for first-year or transfer students who have received the Gold Award from Girl Scouts of the USA. This opportunity is a result of the collaboration between University staff and Girl Scouts Nations Capital.

“We know that Marymount is a good fit for these young leaders to further their education because their dedication to serving the community reflects our core values,” said Dr. Irma Becerra, President of Marymount University. “We are so impressed with the achievements of all of the Girl Scout Gold awardees, and we are looking forward to the impact they will have moving forward. Meanwhile, we will strive to continue to grow this initiative to offer more scholarships in the future.”

“We are honored that Marymount University is recognizing Girl Scouts by providing a scholarship to girls who have earned our highest award,” added Lidia Soto-Harmon, CEO of Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital. “These Gold Award Girl Scouts demonstrate exceptional leadership and a higher commitment to service. The scholarship will help remove some of the financial barriers and make higher education easier for our Gold Award Girl Scouts to obtain, because we know these are the girls the world needs.”

The deadline to submit the Marymount Girl Scouts Gold Award Scholarship Application for the 2020-2021 academic year is Wednesday, April 1, 2020.
