Marymount’s 2025 Giving Day unites community in powerful show of support

In a moving demonstration of school spirit and philanthropic commitment, Marymount University celebrated another successful Giving Day last week—one that brought together students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends to support the University’s mission and future.

Spanning 24 hours from noon on Wednesday, April 9 through noon on Thursday, April 10—with additional gifts accepted through Friday afternoon—Marymount’s 2025 Giving Day inspired over 730 gifts from 630 donors, ultimately raising a total of over $150,000 in support of scholarships, academic programs, athletics and student experiences.

“This isn’t just about giving, it’s about believing,” said Dr. Irma Becerra, President of Marymount University. “Believing in our students, believing in our mission and believing in the bright future we can create together. Whether you’re an alum, faculty or staff member, student or proud supporter, your generosity drives the scholarships, research and life-changing experiences that define the Marymount experience.”

Throughout the day, Marymount students, faculty and alumni participated in a robust campaign to spread awareness, build momentum and energize donors. Strategic email communications helped kick off the campaign, while engaging social media posts, a livestream broadcast and a high-energy birthday celebration for Bernie, Marymount’s mascot, brought the campus community together in celebration and support.

Adding to the excitement were heartfelt video messages shared from President Becerra and current Marymount junior Samuel Struggs, who shared his personal story.

“When you give, you don’t just donate. You open doors, fuel dreams and change lives,” Struggs said. “Thanks to the generosity of donors, I’ve been able to pursue an incredible education, grow as a leader and prepare for my future. Every gift, big or small, helps students pursue their purpose and achieve their goals. I wouldn’t be here without the kindness of others.”

The University’s 2025 Giving Day was held during Marymount’s 75th anniversary year, making this event especially meaningful. Supporters had the opportunity to direct their gifts to areas that matter most to them—from academic departments and athletic teams to special funds like the 75th Anniversary Alumni Fund and the Student Engagement Fund—ensuring that every gift made a personalized and lasting impact.

“The best part of Giving Day is seeing how small gifts can make a big difference,” said Katie Turner, Director of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving. “Without the Marymount community coming together, we wouldn’t have been able to reach this level of success.”
