Arlington, Va. — Marymount University, in partnership with Virginia Works, will host Career Forward: Veteran Transition Summit on Friday, July 24, at the University’s Ballston Center. Held on the eve of National Hire a Veteran Day, this one-day event is designed to help military veterans and transitioning service members translate their military experience into meaningful civilian careers through hands-on workshops, employer networking and personalized career planning.
Building on the success of April’s Career Forward Summit for displaced federal workers and contractors, the Veteran Transition Summit reflects Marymount’s continued commitment to supporting workforce development across the region. The event will connect participants with employers actively hiring for open roles, alongside career coaches and veterans’ service organizations, providing direct access to job opportunities, career guidance and valuable resources.
“As our nation commemorates its 250th anniversary, this summit is an opportunity to honor veterans not only for their service but also by ensuring they have the tools, support and opportunities to thrive in their next chapter,” said Glenn Davidson, Marymount’s Chief Strategy Officer and Executive Director of the University’s Career Center. “We’re proud to bring together partners across sectors to help veterans and transitioning military personnel translate their experience into meaningful careers.”
Throughout the day, participants will choose between two specialized career pathways focused on public service or private industry, allowing them to tailor the experience to their career goals. Sessions will cover topics including translating military experience into civilian qualifications, navigating government hiring, entrepreneurship, personal branding and financial planning during career transitions.
Attendees will also participate in a three-hour career fair and an interactive workshop exploring how artificial intelligence can support career development through resume translation, job search automation and LinkedIn optimization. Participants will conclude the day by creating personalized 30-, 60- and 90-day action plans with guidance from career coaches and veteran navigators.
Organizations interested in recruiting exceptional talent and connecting with veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses during the Career Fair should register to be exhibitors.
The summit reflects Marymount’s growing role as a regional leader in workforce innovation, leveraging partnerships across higher education, government and industry to create pathways to employment for individuals navigating career transitions.
