Marymount University’s Dr. Brian J. Hollar Earns Teaching Excellence Award

Dr. Brian J. Hollar, an associate professor at Marymount University, has been named a regional recipient of the 2018 Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs’ Teaching Excellence Award. Hollar was honored along with other regional recipients at the ACBSP Conference 2018, held June 8-11 in Kansas City, Missouri. He received a crystal medallion and a $250 check.

ACBSP’s mission is to promote continuous improvement and recognize excellence in the accreditation of business education programs around the world.

“I am both deeply humbled and honored to receive this award,” Hollar said. “I am also profoundly grateful for my Marymount colleagues who support me daily. Any success I have with teaching and working with students is a team effort and my colleagues deserve credit for this as well.”

He praised Marymount’s strong institutional culture of teaching.

“Our class sizes are small, giving faculty an opportunity to personally know our students and for students to know one another,” he said. “This level of personal attention and connection is something that is one of the many strengths of teaching at Marymount.”

The school’s diversity and focus on global education is also an incredible asset, he noted.

“I have been impressed with the international opportunities the University provides our students and have personally traveled abroad with students to Panama, the Czech Republic and Ghana and I plan to take students to Cuba next spring,” he said. “These experiences are often profoundly impactful on our students and a wonderful complement to classroom learning.”

In nominating his former colleague, James Padilla, who served as associate dean of Marymount’s School of Business Administration before becoming dean of the Francis J. Noonan School of Business at Loras College, said Hollar epitomizes student engagement.

“He purposefully and successfully engages students at every level,” Padilla said. “More importantly, his engagement has directly generated student involvement and enjoyment in his class.”
