Representatives from the Catholic Diocese of Arlington, Archdiocese of Washington, Archdiocese of Baltimore, Diocese of Richmond, Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston and Diocese of Wilmington gathered to connect and share best practices to strengthen Catholic education. The day’s central theme, “Leading with Purpose,” encouraged participants to remain firmly rooted in the mission of Catholic education. The conference was also held during the Catholic Church’s Year of Jubilee, adding spiritual significance.

“Joy is the indistinguishable sign that the Holy Spirit is working within you,” said Dr. Denise Ball, lecturer in Marymount’s Administration and Supervision M.Ed. program, as she addressed the crowd of attendees. “Remember that leadership is a calling, service is the response and joy is the fruit of that.”

The conference featured a dynamic lineup of panels, presentations, focus groups and discussions designed to address the evolving needs and opportunities in Catholic schools today. Topics included AI and Catholic Education, Catholic Identity Across the Curriculum, Developing and Sustaining a Strong Catholic School Culture and The Power of Leadership.

Nearly 100 participants attended, including special guests such as Bishop Michael Burbidge of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington, Marymount Provost Dr. Pamela Slaven-Lee, College of Health and Education Dean Dr. Skye Donovan and College of Health and Education Associate Dean Dr. Meghan Mahowald.

“This conference was the outgrowth of a conversation I had with a few people about seven months ago. I don’t think we could have imagined we would have generated this much activity,” said Dr. Joseph Vorbach, Superintendent of Schools at the Catholic Diocese of Arlington. “It was a very uplifting day and honestly more than I could have hoped for.”

Throughout the day, participants networked with peers, shared best practices and engaged in meaningful conversations about the challenges and opportunities facing Catholic schools. With shared purpose and inspiration, attendees left the Catholic School Leadership Conference energized and committed to guiding students on a deeper level.

“This conference affirms and strengthens the mission of shaping students academically, spiritually and morally so that Catholic education continues to inspire lives and transform communities,” said Dr. Jessica Marotta, Director of Marymount’s School of Education. “I envision this conference as a lasting tradition at Marymount University, one that strengthens partnerships between dioceses, fosters innovation and reaffirms the joy and calling of serving in Catholic schools.”
