Marymount faculty discuss falls prevention

Last week was Falls Prevention Week, a week dedicated to raising awareness that falls among older adults are both serious and preventable. Two Marymount faculty members, Dr. Sara Pappa and Dr. Julie Ries, were featured on the Arlington Cable TV channel program, “Aging Matters.” The show focused on increasing awareness of the impact of falls on older adults, spreading the word that falls are largely preventable and providing suggestions for programs and strategies for older adults to decrease their risk of falling.

Dr. Pappa and Dr. Ries are part of the Northern Virginia Falls Prevention Alliance, which consists of 32 community groups and is led by Marymount University. The work of the Alliance is supported through a federal grant to Marymount University from the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration on Community Living (DHHS/ACL).
