ARLINGTON, Va. — Following another successful year in program history, Marymount Athletics has reached a new milestone, earning its highest-ever finish in the prestigious Learfield Directors’ Cup standings. Announced last week, the Saints placed 91st out of 422 NCAA Division III institutions, cracking the national top 100 for the first time.
“We are incredibly proud of the progress our athletic department has made this year,” said Vice President for Athletics and Student Life, Jill McCabe. “This accomplishment is a testament to the dedication, consistency, and beliefs that define our program.”
The Learfield Directors’ Cup, presented through a partnership between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today, recognizes overall athletic excellence by awarding points based on NCAA Tournament success across up to 18 sports.
Marymount amassed a program-record 222 points, shattering its previous high of 146 points set in 2024, when the Saints finished 131st nationally. After collecting 50 points during the fall season, Marymount surged in the spring, adding an impressive 172 points to fuel its historic rise in the rankings.
The momentum began in the fall, as both women’s volleyball and women’s soccer captured Atlantic East Conference championships and earned NCAA Tournament berths, putting the Saints on the national scoreboard early.
The spring season elevated Marymount to new heights. A remarkable five teams advanced to NCAA Tournament competition, highlighted by men’s lacrosse, which captured its first conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. Baseball and softball continued their success with consecutive NCAA Tournament bids, while women’s golf secured the Centennial Conference Championship to punch its ticket to nationals. Men’s golf also earned a place on the national stage after winning the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship in the fall and competing in the NCAA Tournament this spring.
“Our coaches continue to build a culture centered on excellence, accountability, and growth, and our student-athletes have embraced that standard with relentless effort and commitment,” added McCabe. “This achievement reflects the collective work of our entire department, and we look forward to continuing this upward trajectory together.”
