Bishop Burbidge Celebrates Mass of the Holy Spirit at Marymount University

The Most Rev. Michael F. Burbidge, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington, celebrated the Mass of the Holy Spirit on Wednesday, Sept. 5 in the Sacred Heart of Mary Chapel. The Mass is an annual tradition that marks the start of each academic year on the campus of Marymount University.

Bishop Burbidge told the students to call upon the help of the Holy Spirit to be truly wise.”

“Those who are wise see through the eyes of faith and rely on the strength that God supplies, never forgetting their ultimate goals are not earthly rewards but life with God forever,” he said.

The Rev. Thomas Yehl, Marymount’s chaplain, and the Rev. Michael Kuhn, assistant chaplain, were concelebrants.

Students, faculty and staff attended the Mass, which is an opportunity for the campus community to come together in prayer and thanksgiving as it begins the new academic year. A special lunch followed in Gerard Dining Hall.
