3 benefits of transferring to Marymount

When it comes to choosing a university to transfer to, there are countless choices. You’ve already taken classes, you’ve worked hard to maintain strong grades and maybe even received your associate’s degree. What comes next? Which school do you select to complete your bachelor’s degree, and why?

Many Marymount University graduates began their undergraduate education at another institution, so you can rest assured there will be people in the same boat! We believe in fostering true community — our admissions counselors and student leaders work hard to ensure our transfer students are welcomed and well integrated into the Marymount family. There are many reasons why transferring to Marymount is a great option, but here are three unique benefits of becoming a Saint.

1. Our location

Washington, D.C., is our backyard! Located only six miles from the nation’s capital, Marymount gives you easy access to amazing opportunities like visiting the Smithsonian museums, attending festivals and parades, fulfilling your required internship at places like Wolf Trap, Capitol Hill, Booz Allen Hamilton, The Kennedy Center and National Geographic, and many, many more. Just hop on the university shuttle to get to the Ballston Metro Station in minutes. This gives you access to the Orange and Silver lines to D.C. and the Tysons Corner area. Students commute to campus using the Metro system and university shuttles.

2. Our class sizes

With small class sizes, you get to know your professors by working with them one-on-one. There are many advantages to this — your professor actually teaches your courses, they get to know you and your future goals and they’re prompt at responding to questions. They engage you better in classroom discussions, and you connect with classmates. There are even opportunities for you to collaborate with professors on current research they’re conducting, or improve your networking to get a solid start in your chosen career field. Marymount’s Center for Career Development can help you with résumé-writing skills, interviewing and much more.

3. Our affordable cost for students who are transferring

Marymount is affordable, and our price is comparable to or less than most universities in the area. We offer automatic academic scholarships to transfer students who qualify. There are also state incentives like the Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG) and District of Columbia Tuition Assistance Grant (DCTAG) for residents of Virginia or D.C., respectively. Once you look at the whole financial picture, Marymount’s price is very competitive.
