Marymount University’s DISCOVER Research Program awards student research fellowships to 10-15 Marymount students each summer. These fellowships, available to both undergraduate and graduate Marymount students, provide a financial stipend for students who work one-on-one with a faculty mentor on a research project or creative endeavor related to the faculty mentor’s scholarly agenda. Students are selected for this award through a competitive process.
We expect to have in-person and remote student participation options, with final decisions made later in the academic year based on pandemic conditions and the nature of the individual projects available for fellowship participants. The fellowship promises to be a very positive learning experience and an exceptional opportunity for professional growth and mentorship.
The program is scheduled to begin on the first day of the summer session each year and continues for 6-8 weeks. In addition to the research activities, Fellows participate in weekly community building, educational, and information sharing sessions created specifically for the Fellows program. Students are expected to dedicate 12-15 hours weekly to the Fellowship.
Student applications open around March 15 each year and remain open through April 15.
How do you find a faculty mentor and project?
Around March 15 each year, a list of faculty projects for the upcoming summer will be posted on this webpage. Students can review the list and apply for up to three different Fellowship projects. No more than one fellowship per student will be awarded.
You are invited to review prior lists of faculty projects by clicking on the ‘Faculty Project Database’ tab on the left. The projects change from year to year. But, these lists give you a sense of the breadth of projects generally available.
To be eligible for a Summer Research Program Fellowship, a student must be in good academic standing. Students who will graduate in August of the same year as the fellowship are NOT eligible.
Please visit the site again after mid-March to access the application for the upcoming summer, including the application deadline (typically sometime in mid-April).
