Arrival Information

At the U.S. Port of Entry, you must present:

  • Passport with a valid F-1 or J-1 visa stamp
  • Original Form I-20, signed by the P/DSO and the student (or parent/guardian, if under 18) or Form DS-2019, signed by the A/RO and the student or scholar
  • Supporting documents
  •      For F-1, supporting documents may include your letter of admission to Marymount University, course enrollment schedule, etc.
  •     For J-1, supporting documents may include your letter of invitation to Marymount University, etc.

At the U.S. Port of Entry, you will receive:

  • A red and blue entry stamp on the visa page of your passport
  • An electronic I-94, which you can later download from here

Note: do not attempt to enter the U.S. port of entry without valid documents, such as F-1 visa and Form I-20 or J-1 visa and Form DS-2019

Airport Information:

Your arrival in the Washington. D.C. area will most likely be at one of the two airports that serve the region: Reagan National Airport (DCA) or Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD). Reagan National Airport is closest to Marymount University. Washington-Dulles International Airport has many incoming daily flights from around the world. A third option, Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) Airport, is farther from Marymount University and it not easily accessible via public transportation.


Ground Transportation Options From Reagan National Airport (DCA):

  • WMATA Metrorail: the Blue Line train is available from National Airport station to Rosslyn station, where students need to switch to the Orange Line or Silver Line to proceed to Ballston station. Cost varies by time of day ($3+). Check hours of service for the day you will be traveling. From the Ballston metro station, students may ride the free Marymount shuttle to Main Campus.
  • Taxi cab to Marymount University Main Campus will cost about $30.
  • Ride App (Uber, Lyft, ALTO) to Marymount University Main Campus will cost about $25-51. At National Reagan Airport, there is a designated pick-up location for Ride App users.

Ground Transportation Options from Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD):

  • WMATA Metrorail: the Silver Line train is available from the Dulles Airport station to the Ballston station. Cost varies by time of day ($3+). Check hours of service for the day you will be traveling. From the Ballston metro station, students may ride the free Marymount shuttle to Main Campus.
  • Washington Flyer Taxi Service to Marymount University Main Campus will cost approximately $70.
  • Ride App (such as UberX, Lyft) to Marymount University Main Campus will cost about $56-$82. At Dulles Airport, there is a designated pick-up location for Ride App users.

Move-In for Marymount:

New students living on-campus at Marymount will be assigned a move-in date by the office of student housing. Students who want to a move-in date a few days before the scheduled move-in date may be charged an extra fee, so plan ahead.

Temporary Housing and Hotels:

If you have family visiting you or helping you with your move-in, there are a variety of hotels in the area for them to stay. If you arrive significantly prior to the opening date of the residence halls, you will have to arrange for housing with friends or relatives or stay at a nearby hotel, or be charged extra fees for moving in early. During the winter holiday, you may not be permitted to move onto campus before the move-in date.

Hotel rates in U.S. dollars: $110-$180 per night. Please identify yourself as a Marymount University student to request a special rate.
