The following scholarships are for Marymount University students in the undergraduate program and the graduate program. Please read each scholarship carefully due to its various components of eligibility and deadline information. Deadlines subject to change.

Scholarships for Undergraduate Students

Claveloux/French/Shapiro Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in Education who also demonstrates financial need.

Freshman Academic Scholarships

Effective Fall 2024
Eligible full-time freshman applicants are automatically offered the highest scholarship they qualify for shortly after admission from the list below:

All academic scholarships are renewable for up to four years of study, provided the student maintains full-time enrollment (12+ credits) and a minimum cumulative GPA of (at least) 2.50. In order to receive priority consideration for these awards, your application for admission and supporting documents should be submitted no later than March 1. Please note that no student may be awarded more than one of these scholarships. These awards are all tuition-specific.

Janet and Bobby Killebrew Scholarship in Nursing and Education

The Janet and Bobby Killebrew scholarship is dedicated in memory of the donor’s mother and father. This scholarship will support an undergraduate student with financial need majoring in Education.

Lt. Gen Elmer Rogers and Lt. Col. Wilma Hague (Rogers) Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate who is in the School of Education and is the offspring of a veteran or is a veteran himself/herself; Student must demonstrate financial need and maintain a 3.2+ cumulative GPA.

The Raja Nasr Endowed Scholarship in Education

The Raja Nasr Endowed Scholarship was established in 2007 to honor Dr. Raja Nasr’s commitment to Marymount University and its School of Education. It was endowed by appreciative students, former students, colleagues and friends of Dr. Nasr. Students must be undergraduate or graduate student/s who are currently enrolled in education courses and are on the education licensure track with financial need. Preference will be given to a student/s with an ESL concentration, but that is not necessary.

Transfer Academic Scholarships

Eligible full-time transfer applicants are automatically offered the highest scholarship they qualify for from the list below.

All four academic scholarships are renewable for up to four years of study, provided you maintain full-time enrollment (12+ credits) and a minimum cumulative GPA of (at least) 2.50. Barbara Lotze Scholarship for Future Physics Teachers

The AAPT Board of Directors offers scholarships for future high school physics teachers. These scholarships, supported by an endowment funded by Barbara Lotze, are available only to U.S. citizens attending U.S. schools. Undergraduate students enrolled, or planning to enroll, in physics teacher preparation curricula and high school seniors entering such programs are eligible. Successful applicants receive a stipend of up to $3,000 and a complimentary AAPT Student Membership for one year. The scholarship may be granted to an individual for each of four years.

Eligibility: Applicants must declare their intent to prepare for, and engage in, a career in physics teaching at the high school level and must, at the time the scholarship funds are received by the student, be: an undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited two-year college, four-year college or a university, or a high school senior accepted for such enrollment; pursuing, or planning to pursue, a course of study leading toward a career in physics teaching in the high schools; showing promise of success in their studies; and, a citizen of the United States of America.

Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program

The National Science Foundation Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program (Noyce) invites innovative proposals that address the critical need for recruiting, preparing, and retaining highly effective elementary and secondary mathematics and science teachers and teacher leaders in high-need school districts. To achieve this goal, Noyce supports talented science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) undergraduate majors and professionals to become effective K-12 STEM teachers. intending to develop a proposal in any of the program’s tracks.

Vicki Soto Memorial Scholarship

The Stratford-based Vicki Soto Memorial Scholarship is a four-year renewable scholarship. A scholarship committee selects four recipients every year. The first two scholarships are to our local high schools in Stratford. In addition, we have expanded The Vicki Soto Memorial Scholarship to be awarded state-wide and nationally as well. One recipient from the state of Connecticut and one recipient from around the country will receive a renewable award.

Eligibility: Applicants must be a full-time senior student at an accredited four-year high school graduating in the upcoming spring and be intending to pursue a career in the field of education at an accredited college. Besides filling out the application, applicants must also complete and submit a copy of their transcript, a recommendation letter and answers to four essay questions.

Scholarships for Graduate Students

AASA Education Administration Scholarship

AASA’s Educational Administration Scholarships were created to provide incentive, honor and financial assistance to outstanding graduate students in school administration who intend to make the school superintendency a career. Top graduate students in educational administration receive a scholarship from AASA, The School Superintendents Association. The applicant must be recommended by the chair of the School of Education in which the applicant is currently enrolled.

Eligibility: The scholarship is open to graduate students earning a degree in educational administration.

DAR Edward G. and Helen A. Borgen Elementary and Secondary Teacher Education Scholarships

The Edward G. and Helen A. Borgen Secondary Teacher Scholarship is a one-time preferred amount of up to $1,500 awarded to one student who is twenty-five (25) years of age or older. The award is based on academic merit and is not automatically renewable, however, recipients may reapply for consideration as long as they meet the eligibility requirements.

Eligibility: Applicants must be studying to teach at the secondary school level. Applicants must have at least a 3.5 GPA, be at least a college sophomore, and attend or plan on attending an accredited college or university. Must be twenty-five (25) years of age or older.

Irene Winifred Eno Grant

The Irene Winifred Eno Grant provides financial assistance to individuals or groups developing an educational program(s) or project that is dedicated to health, safety, and welfare. This grant will be evaluated on the strength of the project proposal, budget, promotion plan, and expected outcome.
Award: $5,000
Application period: mid-April to mid-August
Eligibility: The grant is open to students, educators, interior design practitioners, institutions, and an interior design related group.

Order of Alhambra Scholarship

The International Order of the Alhambra, Inc. is a fraternal organization of Catholic men and women (age 18 years and older) dedicated to assisting persons that are intellectually disabled or handicapped. In recognition of increasing importance of higher education, the International Order of Alhambra is proud to provide financial scholarship awards. Scholarship awards are made on the basis that the applicant is dedicated to this special field of education. The number of scholarships and amounts will vary from year to year, based on scholarship program fund levels.

Eligibility: Eligible applicants must either be upper-level undergraduates, master’s degree students who have accrued 50% of required graduation credits, or community college students who have accrued 50% of required graduation credits. Canadian residents are eligible.

STEM Teachers for America’s Future: Graduate Scholarships

The AFCEA Educational Foundation is offering competitive based scholarships of $2,500 each to students actively pursuing a graduate degree or credential/licensure for the purpose of teaching science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) subjects at a U.S. school in grades K-12.?The scholarships are made possible by generous contributions from ManTech International and AFCEA International.

Eligibility: To be eligible, students must be U.S. citizens and living in the United States. Graduate candidates must be attending an accredited U.S. college or university (online students are eligible) and majoring in education for the purpose of teaching STEM subjects in a U.S. school in grades K-12. Graduate-level candidates must be currently taking at least two semester-equivalent classes at an accredited U.S. college or university at the time of application. Current credential and licensure students must have completed a bachelor’s of science degree or graduate degree in a STEM major. Undergraduate students are ineligible to apply.

Virginia Teaching Scholarship Loan Program

The primary purpose of the Virginia Teaching Scholarship Loan Program (VTSLP) is to provide financial support to students who are interested in pursuing a teaching career in one of the top ten critical shortage teaching areas.  The critical shortage teaching areas are determined annually through the Supply and Demand Survey for School Personnel, based on data received by school divisions in Virginia.  Refer to  Educator Workforce Data & Reports for current critical shortage area reports.

Eligibility: Candidates must have maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 2.7 and be enrolled full-time or part-time in an approved undergraduate or graduate teacher education program.

The EmPOWERED Scholars program awards scholarships to enrolled undergraduate students who volunteer in their communities to use toward their education expenses. Scholars give their time to community-based organizations, student-led organizations and other groups that address food insecurity, safe housing, job opportunities, access to health care and other conditions that can result in health disparities.

Federal Pell Grants

A Pell Grant is money the government provides for students who need to pay for college. Grants, unlike loans, do not have to be repaid.

A Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is a grant for undergraduate students with exceptional financial need.

SAE/Ford Partnership for Advanced Studies Scholarship

The SAE/Ford Partnership for Advanced Studies Scholarship is funded by SAE International, an organization that advances mobility knowledge and solutions for the benefit of humanity. One $5,000 and two $1,000 renewable scholarships awarded to high school seniors in the Richmond region who participated in an athletic sport.

Two-Year College Transfer Grant

Established in 2007, the Two-Year College Transfer Grant Program (CTG) provides an incentive for students to first complete an associate degree at a Virginia public two-year college before transferring to a participating Virginia four-year college or university as a means to reduce the overall cost towards completing a bachelor’s degree.

Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant Program

Established in 1972, the Tuition Assistance Grant Program (VTAG) is designed to assist Virginia residents who attend accredited private, nonprofit colleges and universities in Virginia for other than religious training or theological education.
Award: Based on the number of eligible students and the amount of funds appropriated by the General Assembly and restrictions found in the annual Act of Appropriation

The Educational Advancement Foundation was founded in 1980 by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., an organization with a rich and distinguished history of service that spans nearly a century. Creating the Educational Advancement Foundation was the method by which Alpha Kappa Alpha. Inc. sought to ensure that there would always be support for education, its oldest program of service. Today, the Foundation, a financially strong and viable organization, is a powerful tool for good, pooling the resources of others who share this vision of providing a perpetual source of support for education. Scholarships are the primary means by which EAF carries out its mission. The Foundation awards Merit, Financial Need and Youth Partners Accessing Capital (Y.P.A.C.) scholarships.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Federal Student Aid, a part of the U.S. Department of Education, is the largest provider of student financial aid in the nation. At the office of Federal Student Aid, our more than 1,400 employees help make college education possible for more than 10 million students each year. Federal Student Aid is responsible for managing the student financial assistance programs authorized under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965. These programs provide grant, work-study, and loan funds to students attending college or career school.

GRASP

GRASP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable, college-access organization that assists students and families in obtaining funding for post-secondary education. This includes helping them set attainable goals, assisting with financial aid/scholarships applications, and supporting them through their post secondary journey. According to their website, “GRASP’s goal is to ensure that every student has an equal opportunity for continuing education after high school, regardless of financial or social circumstances.”
