The following scholarships are for Marymount University students in the undergraduate program and the graduate program. Please read each scholarship carefully due to its various components of eligibility and deadline information. Deadlines subject to change.

Scholarships for Undergraduate Students

Claveloux/French/Shapiro Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in Education who also demonstrates financial need.

Freshman Academic Scholarships

Eligible full-time freshman applicants are automatically offered the highest scholarship they qualify for shortly after admission from the list below:

Janet and Bobby Killebrew Scholarship in Nursing and Education

The Janet and Bobby Killebrew scholarship is dedicated in memory of the donor’s mother and father. This scholarship will support an undergraduate student with financial need majoring in Education.

Lt. Gen Elmer Rogers and Lt. Col. Wilma Hague (Rogers) Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate who is in the School of Education and is the offspring of a veteran or is a veteran himself/herself; Student must demonstrate financial need and maintain a 3.2+ cumulative GPA.

The Raja Nasr Endowed Scholarship in Education

The Raja Nasr Endowed Scholarship was established in 2007 to honor Dr. Raja Nasr’s commitment to Marymount University and its School of Education. It was endowed by appreciative students, former students, colleagues and friends of Dr. Nasr. Students must be undergraduate or graduate student/s who are currently enrolled in education courses and are on the education licensure track with financial need. Preference will be given to a student/s with an ESL concentration, but that is not necessary.

Transfer Academic Scholarships

Eligible full-time transfer applicants are automatically offered the highest scholarship they qualify for from the list below.

All four academic scholarships are renewable for up to four years of study, provided you maintain full-time enrollment (12+ credits) and a minimum cumulative GPA of (at least) 2.50. Victoria D. de Sanchez Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to support an incoming or current student with financial need who is majoring in Education, maintains a GPA of 3.2+, and demonstrates interest in Hispanic heritage, culture, and education.

Barbara Lotze Scholarship for Future Physics Teachers

The AAPT Board of Directors offers scholarships for future high school physics teachers. These scholarships, supported by an endowment funded by Barbara Lotze, are available only to U.S. citizens attending U.S. schools. Undergraduate students enrolled, or planning to enroll, in physics teacher preparation curricula and high school seniors entering such programs are eligible. Successful applicants receive a stipend of up to $3,000 and a complimentary AAPT Student Membership for one year. The scholarship may be granted to an individual for each of four years.

Eligibility: Applicants must declare their intent to prepare for, and engage in, a career in physics teaching at the high school level and must, at the time the scholarship funds are received by the student, be: an undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited two-year college, four-year college or a university, or a high school senior accepted for such enrollment; pursuing, or planning to pursue, a course of study leading toward a career in physics teaching in the high schools; showing promise of success in their studies; and, a citizen of the United States of America.

Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program

The National Science Foundation Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program (Noyce) invites innovative proposals that address the critical need for recruiting, preparing, and retaining highly effective elementary and secondary mathematics and science teachers and teacher leaders in high-need school districts. To achieve this goal, Noyce supports talented science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) undergraduate majors and professionals to become effective K-12 STEM teachers. intending to develop a proposal in any of the program’s tracks.

The Leon Bradley Scholarship

The Leon Bradley Scholarship Program was established to encourage more minorities or persons of color to enter the field of teaching and school leadership. The American Association of School Personnel Administrators (AASPA) believes that it is beneficial for all students to experience diversity among the educators who serve as role models for our students. AASPA will annually award up to two scholarships to assist a minority candidate seeking his/her initial teaching certification endorsement. Each scholarship will be given in the amount of $3,500.00.

Vicki Soto Memorial Scholarship

The Stratford-based Vicki Soto Memorial Scholarship is a four-year renewable scholarship. A scholarship committee selects four recipients every year. The first two scholarships are to our local high schools in Stratford. In addition, we have expanded The Vicki Soto Memorial Scholarship to be awarded state-wide and nationally as well. One recipient from the state of Connecticut and one recipient from around the country will receive a renewable award.

Eligibility: Applicants must be a full-time senior student at an accredited four-year high school graduating in the upcoming spring and be intending to pursue a career in the field of education at an accredited college. Besides filling out the application, applicants must also complete and submit a copy of their transcript, a recommendation letter and answers to four essay questions.

Scholarships for Graduate Students

AASA Education Administration Scholarship

AASA’s Educational Administration Scholarships were created to provide incentive, honor and financial assistance to outstanding graduate students in school administration who intend to make the school superintendency a career. Top graduate students in educational administration receive a scholarship from AASA, The School Superintendents Association. The applicant must be recommended by the chair of the School of Education in which the applicant is currently enrolled.

Bishop Charles P. Greco Graduate Fellowships

The Knights of Columbus awards Bishop Charles P. Greco Graduate Fellowships annually to U.S. students enrolled in a full-time master’s degree program designed for teachers of people with intellectual disabilities.
Award: $2,000
Deadline: May 1, 2024
Eligibility: Besides completing the application, applicants must also submit: an official transcript of the applicant’s undergraduate academic record; two recommendations from professional people who have observed the applicant’s work with people with intellectual disabilities; and an autobiographical statement which gives evidence of interest in this program as shown by an account of experiences, paid or voluntary, with people with intellectual disabilities (this statement should also give reasons for the selection of the graduate school). Applicants must be a member in good standing of the Knights of Columbus, or the child or spouse of such a member or deceased member. Special consideration will be given to applicants attending a Catholic graduate school.

DAR Edward G. and Helen A. Borgen Elementary and Secondary Teacher Education Scholarships

The Edward G. and Helen A. Borgen Secondary Teacher Scholarship is a one-time preferred amount of up to $1,500 awarded to one student who is twenty-five (25) years of age or older. The award is based on academic merit and is not automatically renewable, however, recipients may reapply for consideration as long as they meet the eligibility requirements.

Eligibility: Applicants must be studying to teach at the secondary school level. Applicants must have at least a 3.5 GPA, be at least a college sophomore, and attend or plan on attending an accredited college or university. Must be twenty-five (25) years of age or older.

Irene Winifred Eno Grant

The Irene Winifred Eno Grant provides financial assistance to individuals or groups developing an educational program(s) or project that is dedicated to health, safety, and welfare. This grant will be evaluated on the strength of the project proposal, budget, promotion plan, and expected outcome.

Eligibility: The grant is open to students, educators, interior design practitioners, institutions, and an interior design related group.

Order of Alhambra Scholarship

The International Order of the Alhambra, Inc. is a fraternal organization of Catholic men and women (age 18 years and older) dedicated to assisting persons that are intellectually disabled or handicapped. In recognition of increasing importance of higher education, the International Order of Alhambra is proud to provide financial scholarship awards. Scholarship awards are made on the basis that the applicant is dedicated to this special field of education. The number of scholarships and amounts will vary from year to year, based on scholarship program fund levels.

STEM Teachers for America’s Future: Graduate Scholarships

The AFCEA Educational Foundation is offering competitive based scholarships of $2,500 each to students actively pursuing a graduate degree or credential/licensure for the purpose of teaching science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) subjects at a U.S. school in grades K-12.?The scholarships are made possible by generous contributions from ManTech International and AFCEA International.

Eligibility: To be eligible, students must be U.S. citizens and living in the United States. Graduate candidates must be attending an accredited U.S. college or university (online students are eligible) and majoring in education for the purpose of teaching STEM subjects in a U.S. school in grades K-12. Graduate-level candidates must be currently taking at least two semester-equivalent classes at an accredited U.S. college or university at the time of application. Current credential and licensure students must have completed a bachelor’s of science degree or graduate degree in a STEM major. Undergraduate students are ineligible to apply.

Virginia Teaching Scholarship Loan Program

The primary purpose of the Virginia Teaching Scholarship Loan Program (VTSLP) is to provide financial support to students who are interested in pursuing a teaching career in one of the top ten critical shortage teaching areas.  The critical shortage teaching areas are determined annually through the Supply and Demand Survey for School Personnel, based on data received by school divisions in Virginia.  Refer to  Educator Workforce Data & Reports for current critical shortage area reports.

African American Leadership Society STEM Scholarship – United Way of South Hampton Roads

Are you an African American high school senior, current college student, or veteran who will be entering college for the first time this fall? Consider applying for the African American Leadership Society STEM Scholarship! Open to African American college students pursuing undergraduate STEM degrees for the first time, the scholarship aims to reduce the racial and gender gaps that currently exist in the STEM fields. Dream.US Opportunity Scholarship

The Dream.US Opportunity Scholarship is open to undocumented high school seniors/graduates residing in states where they effectively have no access to college due to high out-of-state tuition costs or as their state’s public universities will not admit them. The scholarship is offered by TheDream.US, the nation’s largest college access and success program for DREAMers, or immigrant youth who came to the U.S. at a very young age without documentation. TheDream.US believes that all DREAMers need is an opportunity, and providing them with financial support to complete college will give them that opportunity. Thus, each year, the Dream.US Opportunity Scholarship awards up to $80,000 to students to help cover the costs of one’s bachelor’s degree program at one of their Opportunity Partner Colleges. The Dr. Emma Lerew Scholarship For A Bright Future Scholarship supports underrepresented and underprivileged, and exceptional students focused on careers in education are eligible to apply for the Dr. Emma Lerew Scholarship. For A Bright Future provides annual scholarships to underserved students with outstanding achievement and the drive to pursue higher education in select fields. EmPOWERED To Serve Scholars Program

The EmPOWERED Scholars program awards scholarships to enrolled undergraduate students who volunteer in their communities to use toward their education expenses. Scholars give their time to community-based organizations, student-led organizations and other groups that address food insecurity, safe housing, job opportunities, access to health care and other conditions that can result in health disparities.

Esperanza Fund Scholarship – Esperanza Education Fund

Are you an immigrant or the child of immigrants living in the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia) Metro Area who is a high school senior? If so, you might consider applying for the Esperanza Fund Scholarship! This scholarship is funded by Esperanza Education Fund, an organization that strives to help immigrant students achieve their dreams through higher education. Each year, 10 lucky students are awarded the Esperanza Fund Scholarship to help pay for their higher education. If you are a high-achieving student who was born outside of the U.S. or has two parents who were born outside of the U.S, we encourage you to apply!

Federal Pell Grants

A Pell Grant is money the government provides for students who need to pay for college. Grants, unlike loans, do not have to be repaid.

A Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is a grant for undergraduate students with exceptional financial need.

For A Bright Future Scholarship Programs

For A Bright Future provides annual scholarships to underserved students with outstanding achievement and the drive to pursue higher education in select fields. Students have the opportunity to receive one scholarship per year. They are granted upon assessment of need and university selection. The average award amount is $2,500. The maximum amount is $10,000.

Harriet Irsay Scholarship

The Harriet Irsay Scholarship Fund awards a scholarship to American students, preferably of Polish Heritage, who wish to continue their education after high school and through college. With an eye toward the future and the distribution of information regarding Polish culture, history and people, the grants are given to students from a variety of majors and academic disciplines. Since the launch of the program, more than $275,000 has been awarded to students from all over the Country.

The Esperanza Education Fund provides scholarships to students from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC who are immigrants or the children of immigrants. The Esperanza Education Fund awards a total of $50K – $100K in scholarships annually, depending on available funding.
