TEAS Exam Requirements for the Malek School of Nursing Professions
The Malek School of Nursing Professions requires undergraduate applicants to take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) as part of the admissions process.
What is the TEAS?
The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) measures readiness for nursing. The 170-question exam covers four core subjects: reading, math, science, and English/language usage. It uses multiple choice evaluation to assess the test-taker’s foundational academic skills needed to succeed in nursing. The test is administered by ATI Testing.
Who must take the TEAS?
Applicants for the Accelerated BSN program or transfer students to the traditional undergraduate nursing BSN program must submit a TEAS score report from the current version of (ATI TEAS 7). If you do not submit a TEAS transcript, your application for basic/pre-licensure admission will not be reviewed.
Any student changing majors to nursing must complete the ATI-TEAS exam prior to applying for a change of major. Please submit your ATI-TEAS score with your application.
All Marymount nursing majors (incoming class of 2025 and onward) must take the exam as a requirement for progressing into nursing courses.
How to register for the TEAS?
Register with ATI Testing.
Test Formats and Locations
TEAS formats include the following:
-
TEAS with PSI — taken in person
-
TEAS at ATI — taken online with remote proctoring
Please note: Marymount University does not offer or proctor the TEAS exam.
For more information, contact ATI Testing via their website or at 800-667-7531
Testing Accommodations
Because the TEAS is administered by a third party, testing accommodations must be requested from ATI. Student Access Services at Marymount cannot facilitate TEAS accommodations.
Cost
ATI Testing determines the testing fee, which is due during TEAS registration.
When to take the TEAS?
Give yourself enough time to take the TEAS before the nursing application deadline for your intended term. If you plan on taking the test more than once, or if you suspect you may need to retest, ensure you have built in time for the second take.
Existing Marymount students must take the exam prior to registering for nursing courses. You may take the exam at any time that you feel ready, however, please note there are some concepts in your curriculum that may assist you on content in the exam. Please review the ATI website for content covered.
Preparation Resources
You may purchase ATI study guides and practice materials online. You may also find other TEAS prep resources online from other sources. While preparation is encouraged, Marymount does not endorse any specific materials.
What do I need to pass?
The TEAS test assigns a total score between 0-100% on an Academic Prepared Level of Basic, Proficient, Advanced, or Exemplary. Marymount’s Malek School of Nursing Professions requires a minimum overall score of 68% or higher AND a science section score of 68% or higher.
How do I submit my score?
You can send your TEAS transcripts through your ATI Testing account. The TEAS transcript site provides details about how to obtain and submit your transcript, which varies based on the test format.
Applicants should also upload their TEAS score with their admissions documents.
Important note: It takes 3 business days to release the scores of remotely proctored exams.
Retesting Policy
Marymount will consider scores from up to two TEAS attempts per application period and will use the higher of the two scores. Additional attempts will not be reviewed.
Although there is no required waiting period between tests, we recommend taking adequate time to prepare before the second attempt.
Score Validity
TEAS scores are valid for two years from the program application deadline.
