Credit Transfers

If you are participating in a Global Classroom course, you will receive direct Marymount credit. For study abroad programs and Global Internships, classes taken abroad will be counted as transfer credits on your Marymount transcript, so long as you earn a grade equivalent to a C or higher. Transfer credits do not impact your GPA but do count toward your total credit requirements for graduation. Please note, to meet the residency requirement, you must complete at least 36 credits at Marymount. If you wish to be considered for Latin Honors, you will need to complete 60 credits at Marymount.

*Some majors may require more credits to meet residency requirements. Students should confirm with their department.

The information below does not apply to Global Classroom or Global Internship participants (unless you are taking additional courses during your internship).

To understand how your courses will transfer back, all students applying for semester or summer study abroad programs must work with a GEO advisor to complete the Course Approval Form (CAF). The CAF should list 8-10 courses for a semester or 4-6 courses for summer that you are interested in taking abroad and that may fulfill your degree requirements at Marymount. Please consult with your academic advisor to identify which Marymount courses you should find equivalents for while studying abroad.

How to Start the Course Approval Form (CAF):

  1. Download the CAF and fill out the top section with your name, ID number, intended study abroad term, program name, and major/minor.
  2. List the course codes and names of the courses at the host institution that you’re interested in taking under the first column.
  3. Save the form as a Word document and email it to GEO at . A GEO advisor will complete the rest of the form.

Once all equivalencies are confirmed, GEO will contact you for your signature and send a copy to your academic advisor and college associate dean for approval. The final document will then be uploaded to your study abroad portal so you can submit your application.

How to Find Courses:

To find courses offered by your program partner, click on the “Provider Course Catalog” under the “Academics” tab of your program brochure. You can also cross-reference these courses with those listed under “MU Course Equivalents” to see what courses past MU students have received credit for through the program.
