Why Study Abroad?
Academic Growth and Diversity: With careful planning, you can often complete the classes needed to graduate while studying abroad. You can also take unique courses abroad that aren’t available at Marymount. We work with you during the application process to get your courses pre-approved so you know how they will fit into your degree plan. Studying abroad brings classroom topics to life with local perspectives and hands-on experiences. By immersing yourself in day-to-day life in another country, you’ll broaden your worldview and discover new ways of thinking.
Transferable Job Skills: With only 2% of US students studying abroad, this experience will make you more competitive in the job market. It demonstrates your global mindset, intercultural communication skills, and adaptability—traits highly valued by employers. You can also enhance your resume with an international internship.
Personal Growth and Independence: Study abroad is a time for personal growth. Many students return feeling more confident, adaptable, and ready to face the adult world. You’ll learn about yourself, discover a sense of adventure, and develop skills that will serve you for a lifetime.
Learn a Foreign Language: Though not required, studying abroad is an excellent opportunity to learn or improve your language skills. Whether you choose to live with a host family, take classes in a foreign language, or simply interact with locals, you’ll immerse yourself in the language and culture.
The Best Time to See the World: College is an ideal time to explore the world. With financial aid, scholarships, and the support of GEO, you can make this dream affordable and safe.
