English Language Learning

Intensive English Language Program (IELP)

An Undergraduate Language Learning Program

Marymount’s IELP program offers students a unique experience in furthering English Language Proficiency, while immersing themselves in Marymount’s college culture! As a student at MU, you’ll take your IELP classes in the same buildings as MU undergraduate and graduate students, have the opportunity to study and use resources in the University library, attend exciting college events, and engage with MU faculty and staff.

The program offers two levels of study based upon students’ proficiency levels:

  • High Intermediate
  • Advanced

Each program level requires approximately four months (one semester) of study. Students are placed upon arrival into the appropriate level based on their submitted English proficiency test scores at the time of application. If your English proficiency is on the lower end of the testing range, you may be admitted to the “High Intermediate” level of our IELP program. If you are testing higher on our English Language proficiency range, you may be admitted to the “Advanced” IELP level.

Regardless of which level you are admitted to, you will be supported by dedicated faculty and staff who are invested in ensuring you are successful in meeting your English and academic goals!

English for Academic Purposes

A Graduate Pathway Program

Marymount’s Graduate Pathway is a 1-semester program providing additional language, academic and cultural support that will lead you to the next semester of your graduate studies.  You will earn credits toward your Marymount graduate degree while strengthening your academic English, sharpening your professional skills, and exploring U.S. culture, ultimately improving the skills you need to complete your graduate degree.  Each graduate pathway is tailored to your degree, allowing you to complete academic coursework while preparing to progress to your degree.

This is an excellent opportunity for international students who may need additional preparation for advanced graduate studies.  As a pathway student, you are permitted to attend Marymount even though you may have yet to meet the English language proficiency requirements for direct admission.  You are fully admitted to your graduate program upon successful completion of the Pathway Program requirements and fulfillment of all progression requirements without having to re-apply.  Best of all, you will earn 3 credits toward your degree.

The following graduate programs offer pathway options:
