China – Latin America Relations

Marymount University Initiative on China – Latin America Relations

The Political Science and International Relations program at Marymount University runs an initiative to study China’s growing relationship with countries in Latin America. Topics the initiative covers include:

  • What kinds of strategies does China use to expand its political, economic, and social influence in Latin America?
  • How does Chinese influence in Latin America affect political development, economic development, and public policy in the region?
  • How does Chinese political influence in Latin America affect US-based international firms, and how will these firms adapt to a sustained Chinese presence in the region?

The Initiative supports two complementary efforts at the university:

  • An academic project, to include new undergraduate and graduate international relations courses on China – Latin American relations and a nexus for scholars to research and share findings.
  • A programming hub, to bring Latin American leaders in the public and private sector to Marymount for focused conferences with policymakers, scholars, and other stakeholders.

The Marymount University Initiative on China – Latin America Relations is made possible by contributions from donors and local partners, including:

  • Arko Advice, a leading political analysis, strategy and public affairs company in Brazil
  • (Anonymous)
