Bio
Dr. Jéri L. Ogden, Ed.D. is an educator, writer, and facilitator passionate about equitable practices and cultural competence. With over 14 years of progressive teacher leadership, she works at a nationally recognized education non-profit that provides teaching and learning experiences to a network of educators.
She started her career in education working at DC’s first all-boys public charter school as a substitute teacher and assistant director of the after-school program before training as a Summer 2010 DC Teaching Fellow. Dr. Ogden has taught at public and charter schools in DC and Houston and at an international school in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. During her time in the classroom, she served as a Smithsonian Science in Pre-K Educator and a Flamboyan Family Engagement Fellow, completing over 100 home visits and engaging with families from all 8 Wards in DC. She gained experience teaching Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 3rd-5th grade English Language Arts & Social Studies.
Dr. Ogden holds a Bachelor’s from Howard University in Communication and Culture, a Master’s from American University in Educational Leadership and Policy, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Organizational Innovation from Marymount. She is a member of the adjunct staff at Georgetown University and Marymount University, where her courses focus on restorative practices, relationship building in school systems, professional collaboration, and empathy. In addition, she is the founder of P.U R.P.L.E., a consulting firm that provides purposeful, uplifting, and restorative professional learning experiences to organizations and communities. Her work is rooted in the philosophy that you cannot separate the tree from its roots, and she always seeks to understand the context of people and places because it matters. In her spare time, Dr. Ogden enjoys traveling worldwide, spending time with her loved ones, including her dog Morrison, attending concerts, and adding to her plant collection.
