Biography
With expertise in the management of medically complex patients and older adults, Dr. Cathy Elrod has been part of Marymount’s Physical Therapy program since 1997. She has practiced in home health and at large trauma hospitals. She is an experienced researcher whose work spans the application of clinical practice to improve health outcomes across the lifespan to exploring falls risk and implementation of programming to improve quality of life for older adults. Through funding by federal grants, she is integrating evidence-based fall prevention programs for older adults into the Northern Virginia region. She is a Master Trainer for two evidence-based falls prevention programs, A Matter of Balance and Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL). Dr. Elrod is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the Virginia Physical Therapy Association where she has held positions at the state and national level.

Introductory course on the profession of physical therapy and the larger health care environment in which physical therapists practice; older adults/geriatrics; case reports
Research Interests
Dr. Elrod’s research interests include falls prevention and intervention strategies for older adults, factors that affect the quality of life for older adults, and influences of social issues on rehabilitation and the delivery of patient care.
