Where are you from and what brought you to Marymount?

I am from Westminster, Md., and I came to Marymount because of the small class sizes and to study in the Interior Architecture and Design program. Marymount’s program is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), which means it is top of the line, so it was the only choice that made sense for me if I wanted to be a design professional one day.

What personal or professional opportunities have you had at Marymount that have enriched your experience?

I’ve had so many opportunities on and off campus while at Marymount. Early on, I became a Student Ambassador and Orientation leader, which helped me cultivate and learn leadership skills and how to work in big teams. I am also the Captain of the Marymount Dance Team, which has been amazing. I’m a classically trained dancer, and dance is something that has been a big part of my life since I can remember. I joined the team my freshman year along with my roommate because we wanted to dance and make some new friends. Back then, there were only five girls on the team, and now we have eight. Watching the team grow has been so rewarding, and it is nice to know that I was a part of that. We also won back-to-back championships, placing first in the Collegiate Halftime Hip Hop competition and Collegiate Halftime Pom competition at Invitationals. Being recognized for all of our hard work and dedication was amazing, and it’s even better because this is my last year—so I get to go out on a high note. Overall, dance has been a great outlet for me. It’s a way to keep myself active and make amazing friends and memories. I can’t wait to watch the team continue to grow and succeed in the years to come!

I’ve also developed my professional skills. Marymount’s Interior Architecture and Design program does an excellent job of connecting students to the real world, like supporting different networking events such as the Cosmo Couture Showcase and other IIDA and ASID events.

What is your favorite thing about Marymount?

Hands down, the best part about Marymount is the community. By taking advantage of what the campus had to offer, I created lasting bonds with so many people I would not have otherwise spoken to. I have friends in my major, clubs and leadership opportunities that I wouldn’t trade for anything! I also loved my experience in the design program. It is small but mighty! We are a community and love helping one another when we can. Having small class sizes and individual times with professors is vital to creating proactive projects.

What is your advice to students about how to make the most of their college experience?

I tell this to all the people on the campus tours that I lead—get involved! You miss so many opportunities if you stay in your own bubble and don’t go out and explore all that the world has to offer you. Marymount is right near the nation’s capital, and so many Marymount clubs take advantage of that. Going out and exploring the city with people who have the same interests as you can be so fun! You just have to be brave enough to put yourself out there
