U.S. News & World Report Ranks Marymount in Top Tier of Universities in the South

Marymount University is once again in the top tier among Regional Universities in the South in several categories, ranking 52nd overall in the 2018 edition of “Best Colleges” by U.S. News & World Report. The annual rankings help students worldwide compare the academic quality of more than 1,800 U.S.-based schools. The U.S. News rankings focus on academic excellence, with schools ranked on up to 15 measures of academic quality. Overall, the rankings emphasize student outcomes – including graduation and retention rates – which carry the most weight. 

“It’s an honor to be consistently recognized in the rankings by U.S. News & World Report among the top regional colleges in the South,” said Marymount President Dr. Matthew D. Shank. “We’re also pleased that the report recognizes the strength of our ethnic diversity, our value for veterans and the welcoming atmosphere we provide for our international students. Plus, it notes the great value a Marymount education provides!”

Second in Campus Ethnic Diversity
The Marymount campus again ranked second for ethnic diversity among Regional Universities in the South in 2018. The U.S. News list identifies colleges where students are most likely to encounter undergraduates from racial or ethnic groups different from their own. Marymount’s student body is 43 percent minority.

Best Colleges for Veterans
Over the years Marymount has consistently been recognized as an excellent choice for veterans from a variety of publications. It ranked 29th out of 41 for “2018 Best Colleges for Veterans” in its region.

Best Foreign Student Factor
Marymount rose from fifth in percentage of international students to second (14 percent of its undergraduates are international students). Well-known for its welcoming environment – Marymount has students from 76 countries — the report notes that a strong global presence allows international students an opportunity to share culture and traditions with their U.S. peers. One of Marymount’s Common Ground tenets focuses on students developing a global perspective.

Best Value School
MU ranked 63rd as a “2018 Best Value School,” which was determined by its academic quality and the net cost of attendance for a student who received the average level of need-based financial aid. More than 80 percent of Marymount students receive some type of financial aid.
