U.S. News Ranks Marymount M.S. in Cybersecurity Among Nation’s Best

Just two years after it began, Marymount University’s master’s degree in Cybersecurity is getting strong reviews. In its Best Online Programs edition, U.S. News & World Report ranks Marymount’s program 53rd in the “Graduate Business Programs (Excluding MBA)” category.

Marymount’s master’s degree in Cybersecurity can be earned entirely online.

“We’re very happy with the ranking, especially when you consider that at the time the data was collected, we didn’t have any graduates,” said Dr. Diane Murphy, chair of Marymount’s Department of Information of Technology. “We just graduated our first four students in the program in December, and they all already have good jobs.”

The graduates now work for Amazon.com, the National Science Foundation, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and Booz Allen Hamilton, a leading provider of management and technology consulting to the federal government.

“We’re in the right place, of course,” Murphy added. “The Washington, D.C., area is the place to be for cybersecurity, with plenty of opportunities with the government, national defense and a wealth of private firms.”

The Cybersecurity field is not just technical but requires management and leadership. Marymount’s program offers courses and experiences that combine the technical knowledge required to manage the business risks associated with cybersecurity with the management knowledge required to secure the organization at all levels of government and business.

Marymount’s location also gives its faculty access to the latest in cybersecurity laws, policies and monitoring techniques.

In the next few years, Murphy expects MU’s Master of Science in Cybersecurity program to grow rapidly.

Murphy said she was grateful for the work Marymount’s Office of Institutional Effectiveness put into the U.S. News & World Report ranking process.
