Tickets Available for Portfolio in Motion’s April 28 Premiere

Marymount University’s annual student fashion show, Portfolio in Motion, will premiere Thursday, April 28 in the Rose Benté Lee Center on the school’s main campus, 2807 North Glebe Road. Premiere-night tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased online at marymount.edu/PIM. The price includes a 6:30 p.m. reception followed by the show at 8 p.m., where Reem Acra will be honored as designer of the year.

This year’s show is themed “Checked In,” a nod toward the timeless style and glamour of a classic hotel. It will have a modern take on mother/daughter dressing, evening wear, men’s wear and will also highlight the work of graduating seniors, who focus on signature sportswear, daytime and cocktail dresses.

Their exciting designs truly assure the promise of their future inclusion in the fashion industry,” said Janice Ellinwood, chair of Marymount’s Fashion Design and Merchandising Department.

Shows will also be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30 at the Lee Center. Costs for those nights is $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

As this year’s honored designer, Acra, a native of Lebanon, reflects the value Marymount puts on global perspective, Ellinwood said, noting that the university has undergraduates from nearly 70 countries. Acra’s designs epitomize global glamour, with European style, a sense of luxury and a modern aesthetic. Previous honorees have included Tommy Hilfiger, Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors and the late Oscar de la Renta.

Portfolio in Motion is the culminating academic project for Marymount’s fashion design and merchandising students. Every aspect – from the jury-selected student designs to all elements of the show’s production – reflects their academic and creative efforts. After seeing the show, Acra will review the senior fashion design students’ portfolios, share her expertise and give advice as they begin their careers.
