Black History Month Kickoff Party

Join RA Maya and Black Student Union members in celebrating the start of Black History Month with a vibrant and inspiring kickoff party! Hosted in collaboration with the Sigma Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the Black Student Union, this event honors the rich history, culture and achievements of the Black community. Participate in fun activities and enjoy great food and music!
February 5

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with our Candy Gram Extravaganza, co-hosted by Residence Life and the Black Student Union! Create thoughtful, sweet-filled notes for your friends while exploring empowering quotes from iconic Black leaders. Let’s spread love, positivity and a little candy while fostering community and celebrating culture. Candy grams are free and will be delivered straight to on-campus students. Come and help spread the love!

Movie Night: “Diary of a Mad Black Woman”

Join the Black Student Union for a special Black History Month movie night featuring “Diary of a Mad Black Woman,” a powerful story of resilience, love and self-discovery. This iconic film, written by Tyler Perry, explores themes of empowerment and the strength of Black women in overcoming adversity. Come together for an evening of inspiration, reflection and community as we celebrate Black storytelling and artistry.

Trip to the National Museum of African American History and Culture

This Black History Month, experience an inspiring journey through the National Museum of African American History and Culture, exploring the rich and profound contributions of African Americans to history, culture and society. From exhibits showcasing the resilience of enslaved people to the triumphs of the Civil Rights Movement and beyond, the museum offers a powerful narrative of struggle and achievement. This trip promises an educational and moving opportunity to reflect on the past, celebrate progress and inspire future action. Transportation will be provided. Spots are limited!

Black History Month Career Panel
Reinsch Auditorium / 2–4:30 pm
This Black History Month Career Panel is an engaging event designed to celebrate Black excellence and inspire the next generation of professionals. It features a diverse lineup of accomplished speakers sharing their career journeys, challenges and achievements. Attendees will gain valuable insights, practical advice and inspiration to navigate and thrive in their own career paths.
February 21
Black Out Basketball Game
Lee Center Gym / 7 pm
Join Black Student Union members for a “black out” basketball game! Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to wear black as they cheer on the Marymount Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams as they face off against Pratt Institute in two consecutive home games. The Women’s game begins at 6 pm, followed by the Men’s game at 8 pm. Come support our student-athletes and the Black Student Union!
