At Marymount, we are committed to serving not only our students but also the local community. This holiday season, we will offer various service opportunities for students, faculty and staff to give their time and resources to help those in need. Below are a few events sponsored by our on-campus organizations that allow our Saints to give back.

Care Kits for the Community (ongoing, ends November 22)

Throughout November, Marymount students, faculty and staff are invited to donate travel-sized toiletries and first aid items for the homeless. Collection boxes will be placed around campus, with November 22 as the last day to donate. This community service event is a collaboration between the Office of Spiritual Life & Ministry, Student Engagement and Student Living. All donated items will support Bailey Shelter & Supportive Housing in Falls Church, Va. Let’s come together to make a difference!

Sandwich Making for PathForward (ongoing, Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 pm in the Gerard Dining Hall)

This holiday season, join Marymount Food for Thought as they make bagged lunches for Arlington residents experiencing homelessness in partnership with PathForward, the Arlington homeless shelter in Court House. Come by yourself or bring a friend, your class or your sports team and help us support our neighbors in Arlington!

Fall Food and Hygiene Drive (November 14-December 1, multiple locations)

The Office of Wellness and the College of Health and Education are asking for your donations to help stock Appollonie’s Cupboards, which can be found around campus. These cupboards serve as a wellness resource for our community, particularly for students who may be facing food insecurity. Desired donations include grab-and-go snacks, canned foods and hygiene products. Donations can be placed directly in the cupboards in the Lee Center, Office of Wellness, Caruthers 1015, Rowley 0107, Ballston’s 6th Floor and the 4040 Building. Thank you for your generosity!

Salvation Army Angel Tree (November 15-25, Ballston’s 6th Floor)

Marymount’s chapter of Mu Upsilon Gamma invites the community to participate in the annual Salvation Army Angel Tree from November 14-25. This year, our community will support 25 local children in need! Gifts are due November 25 and can be dropped off on the sixth floor of Marymount’s Ballston Center. All gifts should be unwrapped with gift receipts attached. Please consider supporting local youth this holiday season!

Clothing and Cupcakes Drive (November 15, 6-7 pm in the Ostapenko Lobby)

Residence Life is sponsoring a clothing drive to collect clothing and shoe donations that will be dropped off at a local Arlington Goodwill. Participants will receive a sweet treat from Georgetown Cupcakes in exchange for each donation!

Cans for Cones Food Drive (November 19, 5-6 pm in the Gerard Lobby)

Resident Assistants will run a canned food drive to gather donations for local food pantries. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to put non-perishable food items in the Gerard Lobby boxes. All donations will be rewarded with free ice cream!

Winter Warm Up (November 20, 7-8 pm in the Rowley Lobby)

Join the Resident Assistants for a clothing drive to collect clothing items to donate to those in need. Students are encouraged to bring warm winter clothing and accessories for the less fortunate members of our community. Help spread the warmth this holiday season!

Marymount x INOVA Blood Drive (November 20, 10 am-4 pm in the Gerard Parking Lot)

The Marymount Health Sciences Club is teaming up with INOVA to provide lifesaving blood donations to those in need! The INOVA Blood Mobile will take donations from 10 am-4 pm in the Gerard Parking Lot. All blood donors will receive a t-shirt and donut in thanks for their donation and support of INOVA. This event also counts as one service event/hour for those looking to fill their service requirement. Help the Marymount community reach 45 units of blood! Holiday Card Writing Event (December 3, 6-7 pm in the Gerard Lobby)

Help uplift the local community by writing holiday cards for a local nursing home! The Office of Residence Life offers students, faculty and staff the chance to spread holiday cheer with handmade holiday cards for those feeling lonely or isolated this season. Bring a card or make some of your own! Supplies and food will be provided for all volunteers.
