Marymount University invites the public to the free opening reception of the exhibition “Adapt/Adorn,” which features Baltimore-based artists Amy Boone-McCreesh and Bonnie Crawford, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11 at the Ballston Gallery in the new Ballston Center, 1000 North Glebe Road.
The exhibit includes drawings, multi-media pieces and wall-based sculptures.
“Both artists source a wide variety of materials that fully encompass the space of the gallery,” said Meaghan Kent, interim director of the gallery. “Themes of time, memory, melancholy, and humor are infused in an experiential approach to the work presented.”
Boone-McCreesh is currently in residence at Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in Amherst. She received her master’s degree in studio arts from Towson University and her bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design. Her new publication “Taste and Privilege” coincided with a solo exhibition at York College of Pennsylvania.
Crawford has had recent solo exhibitions at Hillyer Art Space in Washington, D.C., and School 33 Art Center in Baltimore. She received her master’s of fine arts from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and her bachelor’s degree in Studio Art from the University of Maryland College Park.
The exhibition, co-organized by Kent and Paul Shortt, runs through March 3. Regular gallery hours are from 1 to 6 p.m., Thursdays through Saturdays and by appointment. Street parking is available.
