With approval from Governor Glenn Youngkin, Marymount University President Irma Becerra has been reappointed to the Board of Trustees for the Science Museum of Virginia. Her new five-year term officially began on July 1, 2025, and will continue through June 30, 2030.
President Becerra was originally appointed to the Board in March 2024 to fill an unexpired term left vacant by a resignation. That temporary appointment concluded on June 30, 2025. With this reappointment, she now begins a full term and continues serving alongside fellow educators, business leaders and community members in providing strategic oversight and policy guidance to the Commonwealth’s leading institution for informal STEM education.
Headquartered in Richmond, Va., the Science Museum of Virginia offers hands-on learning opportunities and interactive exhibits that explore energy, health, engineering, space and other science-based topics. The Museum also operates a satellite campus in Danville, Va., and is planning to expand to Northern Virginia in late 2027.
“I am honored to continue serving the Commonwealth of Virginia through this meaningful appointment,” President Becerra said. “The Science Museum of Virginia plays a vital role in sparking curiosity and advancing STEM learning across our state. I look forward to supporting its continued growth and impact, especially as it expands its reach into the Northern Virginia region that Marymount proudly calls home.”
A champion of innovation and experiential learning, President Becerra’s ongoing service to the Board aligns with Marymount’s mission to prepare students for successful careers in STEM fields and beyond.
All appointments to the Science Museum of Virginia’s Board of Trustees are subject to confirmation by the Virginia General Assembly.
