Opening Reception For Photo Exhibit on Youth Refugees at Marymount on Feb. 24

The public is invited to a free opening reception for “Youth Seeking Refuge: Unaccompanied,” a photo exhibition by Oliver Contreras from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24 at the Barry Gallery at Marymount University, 2807 North Glebe Road.

Contreras is a photojournalist based in Washington, D.C., whose focus is local news and stories of interest to the Hispanic community. His work has appeared in The Washington Post, The Guardian, Wall Street Journal, TIME, Mother Jones, NBC, Yahoo News and other outlets.

During the past four years, he’s recorded the experiences of Latino immigrants in the United States, which has taken him to Central America, the U.S.-Mexican border, the Caribbean, and cities across the country.

The Barry Gallery, located in Marymount’s Reinsch Library, is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is free.

The exhibit will run through March 26.

Marymount University is an independent, coeducational Catholic university offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in a wide range of disciplines.
