Marymount University’s Title IX Coordinator Presents in San Diego

Angela Nastase J.D., Marymount University’s Title IX coordinator, presented on behalf of the University at the 2018 ACACCU Conference at the University of San Diego earlier this summer. Her session was titled “Preparing Changemakers at Catholic Institutions: Fostering Inclusive Environments while Ensuring Title IX, VAWA, and Clery Compliance.””

Those federal laws prohibit sex discrimination in educational programs and activities and require institutions to create sexual and interpersonal misconduct response policies and provide prevention, education, and awareness programs.

“Marymount University cares a great deal about student safety and is committed to ensuring that students and employees are able to focus on academic programs and activities in a safe environment that is free of harassment and discrimination,” Nastase said. “As a result, I think we have done an excellent job educating the entire campus community about healthy interactions in both personal and work environments.”

Nastase, who has extensive experience in Title IX administration and implementation of compliance and risk reduction programs in higher education and K-12 school districts, came to Marymount in 2017. Her co-presenter was Derek Ishikawa, a higher education and employment law attorney with Hirschfeld Kraemer in Santa Monica, California.

She also worked as a risk management consultant for United Educators and as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator and Investigator for the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where she responded to and investigated matters of sexual and interpersonal misconduct and managed Title IX and VAWA campus-wide communications and training programs.

Nastase holds a juris doctor from Creighton University School of Law in Omaha, Nebraska.
