Marymount University’s Dr. David Brown, an assistant professor of literature and languages, has been awarded a Digital Humanities Fellowship in joint cooperation with the English and Statistics Departments at Carnegie Mellon University for the 2018-2019 academic year.
Brown, who has been at Marymount for three years, will take a leave of absence from the University to be part of a team working on technologies to support Carnegie Mellon’s First Year Writing Program, including software that helps students evaluate their writing. In addition, he will help develop a capstone course in humanities analytics.
Following the interdisciplinary fellowship, the results of his work will benefit Marymount students and programs.
Brown earned his bachelor of arts and master’s of teaching degrees from the University of Puget Sound and his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan. His teaching areas include linguistics, the history of English and academic writing.
