Marymount University has named William L. Walsh Jr., a leading government contracts lawyer with deep ties to the business community, as executive-in-residence at its School of Business Administration.
“Marymount is fortunate to begin a formal executive-in-residence program with someone whose reputation and achievements are as heralded as Bill Walsh’s,” said President Matthew D. Shank. “Bill has the perfect personality to interact with students and share his practical wisdom and career advice. In addition, he’ll be a great sounding board for faculty looking to incorporate practice with theory.”
Dr. Marianne Ward-Peradoza, dean of the business school, said Walsh will be a tremendous resource for faculty that teach in the areas of business law, leadership and government contracting. He will also be available for one-on-one and group advising sessions with students.
Walsh, who has served on the School of Business Administration’s board of visitors for more than a decade, said he looks forward to working closely with Ward-Peradoza at the School’s new Ballston Center home.
Walsh’s legal career began at the Department of Defense, working on government contract and legislative issues. He also served as chief counsel for NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and was assistant general counsel for the U.S. Department of the Navy.
After 32 years of practice at Venable LLP, Walsh put his retirement plans on hold to serve as counsel in the Tysons office of Hirschler Fleischer, an 80-lawyer firm expanding its presence in the D.C. area. Walsh currently serves on the board of directors of the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce and Arlington’s Economic Development Commission.
He earned his juris doctorate from Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, and his bachelor’s degree from Boston College.
