Emmy-Winner David Gelles To Give McLaughlin Lecture At Marymount On April 2

David Gelles, the five-time Emmy Award-winning Executive Producer of CNN’s Political Programming, will deliver the 2019 Marya McLaughlin Lecture in Media Communications at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, April 2 at Marymount University’s Reinsch Auditorium, 2807 N. Glebe Road, Arlington, Virginia 22207. All members of the Marymount community and the public are invited to attend.

Gelles leads the network’s political coverage of major campaign events, debates, town halls, election nights, and inaugurations. Gelles joined CNN in 2013 and supervises the coverage of breaking news, politics and reports from around the globe. He also led the 2016 election night coverage, the most watched election night in cable news history. Prior to joining CNN, Gelles spent 14 years at NBC, where he covered major breaking news events including the Virginia Tech shootings, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the death of Pope John Paul II. He earned four Emmy awards for his work on The Today show and another Emmy award for his work on NBC’s two-hour documentary Inside the Obama White House.

The endowed lecture at Marymount honors the late Marya McLaughlin, who was a well-known CBS News radio and television correspondent. The lecture provides students, faculty and the public with insights and inspiration from journalists of national stature. Past lecturers have included Mark Shields, a syndicated columnist and political analyst for ‘NewsHour,’ Bob Schieffer, who was chief Washington Correspondent for CBS News and moderator of ‘Face the Nation,’ and Marymount alumnus Justin Kenny, who won two Emmy Awards while working as the foreign and defense editor for the ‘NewsHour’ on PBS. Last year’s lecturer was Carol Leonnig, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist at the Washington Post.
