Dr. Kelekar Speaks on Health Promotion and Spending

Dr. Uma Kelekar, an assistant professor of healthcare management in the School of Business Administration at Marymount University, gave two talks during the spring.

Kelekar presented a social enterprise pitch “Eye Health Promotion and Prevention of Pterygium in Peru” at the Global Health Innovation Conference at Yale University on April 14. She spoke on the topic of “Fiscal Competition in Health Spending: Examining Physicians’ Salaries Among Metropolitan Areas in the United States” at the Health Teach Conference held by Advena World on May 15 in Silver Spring, Md.

She also reviewed the book, “Risks and Challenges in Medical Tourism:Understanding the Global Market for Health Services” in the South Asian Journal of Global Business Research.

Her research interests include public health finance and policy, health economics, and health econometrics. She teaches graduate-level courses in healthcare management.

Kelekar received her Ph.D. in public policy from George Mason University, her master of arts from Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics in India and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pune.
