Sponsored Students FAQ

I have registered for an online course for this semester. Is there anything I need to do?

  • International students are only permitted to take one online course a semester for every 12 credits they are enrolled in.
  • Alert ISS if you are registered for an online course.
  • If your sponsor requires a letter stating that you are in an online course, please request the academic certification letter.
  • Some sponsors may have different policies related to the number of online courses a student can complete. For example, students sponsored by the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission are only permitted to take one online course in a semester and cannot exceed 12 credits (undergraduate students) or 6 credits (graduate students) of online course work for their degree.
  • Please be sure to confirm the online course policy with your sponsor.

I need to change my major or declare my specialization. What do I need to request?

  • Some sponsors may require an academic certification letter outlining your progress and time for completion of the new major or specialization you are looking to declare before they will issue a new financial guarantee and approve the major/specialization change.
  • When requesting the letter, be sure to include what major or specialization you are looking to declare.
  • Once you are provided the academic certification letter for the new major or specialization follow your sponsor’s protocol for changing majors. For example, students sponsored by the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission should raise the “Change of Major” flag and submit their academic certification letter.
  • Once the sponsor has approved the major/specialization change, they may issue a new financial guarantee stating the new major/specialization OR send an email to sponsored.students@marymount.edu indicating they have approved the change.
  • Once approval has been received, the student should complete the Change of Academic Program form and submit it to their school office for processing.

Is it possible for me to complete a minor? (Undergraduates only)

  • Some sponsors will allow students to complete a minor if this will not delay their graduation.
  • Confirm with your sponsor their policy on completion of minors.

My sponsor needs to see my final grades; how should I provide them with that information?

  • Request an official transcript from the Office of the Registrar.
  • Please note, you may request the transcript prior to the end of the semester and indicate “hold for grades”.
  • If you are an undergraduate student enrolled full-time, you can also indicate “hold for current semester Dean’s List”.
  • Once the transcript is processed, you will receive notification of this.

My sponsor needs to see proof that my degree has been completed; how should I provide them with that information?

  • Request an official transcript from the Office of the Registrar.
  • Please note, you may request the transcript prior to the end of the semester and indicate “hold for degree”.
  • Once the transcript is processed, you will receive notification of this.
  • Once your degree is conferred, you can also request a degree completion letter (information about this letter above).

I want Marymount to be able to discuss my educational record with my sponsor should they ask any questions. How can I give my sponsor access to this information?

  • Complete the FERPA waiver form (found here) and submit this to the Office of the Registrar with a copy of your ID (MU ID card, driver’s license, or passport). This can be emailed directly to registrar@marymount.edu.

I need to submit my financial guarantee paperwork to Marymount. Where should I submit this?
