Center Director, Dr. Patricia Heyn, and MCOA fellow, Dr. Uma Kelekar, presented their work titled: “Examining the Impacts of Coronavirus Disease 2019 Mitigation Policies on Health Outcomes of Older Adults: Lessons Learned From Six High-Income or Middle-Income Countries” at the 2022 GSA Annual Scientific meeting in Indianapolis. This article highlighted the role of public policies across six countries and their impacts on the health outcomes of older adults during the pandemic. This editor’s pick was published recently in the Public Policy and Aging Reports October edition with the title “Examining the Impacts of Coronavirus Disease 2019 Mitigation Policies on Health Outcomes of Older Adults: Lessons Learned From Six High-Income or Middle-Income Countries”.

The MCOA team also presented a poster on their ongoing work assessing the feasibility of fall prevention programs implementation based on an academic-community partnership at the conference. Since 2016, the MCOA team has been involved in a federally-funded project to implement fall prevention programs in the Northern Virginia region. This project has trained approximately 5,000 older adults and is currently in the stage of assessing the program’s reach, and outcomes and planning its next phase of implementation.
