Important Information for All Attending a Commencement Ceremony

Tickets

All Commencement celebrations being held in DAR Constitutional Hall are ticketed events. Graduating students do not need a ticket, however each guest who attends will need their own ticket. Tickets for all events will be available through the graduates’ College Office during the last week of class (April 27 – May 1). Tickets are not transferrable across ceremonies. Numbers of tickets for each ceremony are calculated according to the seating capacity of the venue and the number of graduating students at each ceremony.

Each graduating student attending the Undergraduate ceremony (May 17, morning) may receive 8 tickets.

Each graduating student attending the Graduate ceremony (May 17, afternoon) may receive 6 tickets.

Each student attending the Hooding ceremony (May 16, afternoon) may receive 12 tickets.

Ordering Regalia

Students may now order their regalia through Herff Jones through this LINK. You may also purchase announcements and diploma frames through the same link.

For best shipping prices, order by April 18, 2026, at 11:59 pm. The last day to place your order is April 27, 2026, at 11:59 pm. Please allow two to three weeks for shipping and receipt of regalia. You will receive tracking information in the email you provided on your order once the items ship.

Please open the package upon receipt and try it on to ensure a proper fit and that you have received all necessary items.

The Bookstore will be hosting a graduation fair on April 8th.  Caps and gowns and diploma frames will also be available for purchase. A grad images photographer will be on site to take headshots and graduation formal photography.

Doctorate level students must order regalia through the Herff Jones link, it will not be available in the bookstore

Arrival Time

The Doctoral Hooding Ceremony (May 16) will start promptly at 4:00pm. Students should arrive at 3:00pm to allow for check-in and for guests to be seated. Doors will open at 3pm for all guests.

The Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony (May 17) will start promptly at 10:00 am.  Graduating students should arrive at DAR Constitution Hall, Washington DC by 8:30am to allow for student check-in. Doors will open at 9:00am to allow guests to be seated prior to the start of the ceremony.

The Graduate Commencement Ceremony (May 17) will start promptly at 2:00pm.  Graduating students should arrive at DAR Constitution Hall, Washington DC by 12:30pm to allow for student check-in. Doors will open at 1:00pm to allow guests to be seated prior to the start of the ceremony.


Parking & Transportation Information

Disclaimer:

Please note that other universities will also be hosting commencement ceremonies in downtown Washington, D.C. on the same day. We strongly encourage guests to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel and parking.

Parking:

Street parking is available in surface spots throughout the area. Many metered spaces are free on Sundays; however, availability may be limited.

There are parking garages located near DAR Constitution Hall on New York Avenue, Pennsylvania Avenue, and along 17th and 18th Streets. Guests may also reserve parking in advance through Colonial Parking, which offers event parking options near DAR Constitution Hall.

Metro:

From the Orange and Blue Lines (approximately 10–15 minute walk):

  • Take the Farragut West Metro station.
  • Exit on 17th Street and walk south toward Constitution Avenue. Turn right on D Street.
  • On Sundays, you must use the 18th Street exit. Walk south on 18th Street and turn left on D Street.
  • The main entrance is located mid-block. Please proceed up the stairs to enter.

From the Red Line (approximately 10–15 minute walk):

  • Take the Farragut North Metro station.
  • Exit on 17th Street and walk south toward Constitution Avenue. Turn right on D Street.
  • The main entrance is located mid-block. Please proceed up the stairs to enter.

Check-in

Students must check-in before their ceremony at DAR Constitution Hall. Additional details about the check-in process will be provided via email closer to the dates of Commencement.


Live Stream

The live streaming link will be placed on the Commencement website during the week of May 11.  In addition, a recording of the live stream ceremonies will be available to download during the week after all ceremonies are completed.

Latin Honors

Students fulfilling requirements for a bachelor’s degree will graduate with Latin honors if they have completed a minimum of 60 credits at Marymount University and their cumulative grade point average meets or exceeds the following:

  • 3.8 summa cum laude (with highest honors)
  • 3.6 magna cum laude (with high honors)
  • 3.4 cum laude (with honors)

The grade point average is not rounded when calculating honors. Study abroad credits (with the exception of credits earned through Marymount-sponsored programs) are not counted towards the 60 credit requirement for eligibility for graduation honors.

Undergraduate students participating in Commencement 2026 will have Latin Honors recognized at Commencement if they have completed a minimum of 60 credits at Marymount University and their cumulative GPA is a 3.4 or higher. Students will receive an email from the Office of the Registrar to their Marymount email account notifying them of this achievement the week of May 11, 2026.
