Health and Safety

We encourage all students to follow health and vaccination recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Additionally, Marymount University requires all study abroad participants to have health and accident insurance. This insurance must provide, at a minimum, coverage for emergency medical care and treatment, hospitalization, and physician services in the host country, as well as insurance for medical evacuation, repatriation, and medical reunion. All students studying abroad through the Global Education Office (GEO) are covered under Chubb Travel Insurance. However, students should also maintain their U.S. health insurance to ensure continuous coverage for any pre-existing conditions.

Most Marymount-approved study abroad programs include health insurance and assistance plans in their program fees. We recommend reviewing the insurance benefits included in your study abroad program (if applicable) to determine if the coverage meets your needs.

Enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (S.T.E.P.)

The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service offered by the U.S. State Department. By enrolling in STEP, you can receive important information from the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate about safety conditions in your destination country, which can help you make informed travel decisions. Enrolling also allows the U.S. Embassy to contact you in emergencies, such as natural disasters, civil unrest, or family emergencies, and helps family and friends reach you if needed.
