The Gerontological Society of America student chapter club b took part in Marymount University’s Annual Student Research Conference to promote a wide variety of careers in aging to students, increasing interest in the field.

The Gerontological Society of America student chapter club hosted MU’s Careers in Aging Day featuring local organizations such as BrightView, Vitality, Goodwin Living, and Arlington Neighbourhood Village at the Ballston Conference Center, offering students from all majors a valuable opportunity to explore the field of aging. Attendees engaged in round table discussions, networking opportunities and had the opportunity to learn about internships and volunteering opportunities.

The MCOA provided a spring educational course at the Falls Church community center. The four week course was led by MCOA fellows that included discussions on cognitive and oral health.

The Gerontological Society of America student chapter club hosted a Board Game Night for MU students and chapter members which featured several games such as chess
and puzzles. It was an engaging event that helped promote brain health in a fun way. It also provided a great opportunity for chapter members to connect and network with other students, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.
We were delighted to host an exciting in-person presentation with Karen Tracy, a renowned expert in the use of the KAER TOOLKIT for brain health. Karen highlighted the importance of early cognitive function screening for brain health by using the KAER toolkit. The presentation also included practical methods and approaches to introduce clinically validated tools that can be effortlessly incorporated into a variety of healthcare practices and community services.
Racial health equity” is growing exponentially as a concept in the academic literature and was listed as a priority of the United States government, yet we lack consistent explanations for what this term means. We organized a workshop to discuss terminologies on racial health equity, as part of a project funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Cochrane International, and the Marymount Center for Optimal Aging. Featuring speakers with diverse expertise, we had an engaging discussion on the latest findings and next steps for this project.


The Healthy Brain Initiative (HBI): State and Local Road Map for Public Health, 2023-2027 is here! Public health practitioners and partners can learn about new strategies and actions to implement the Road Map in the webinar. Explore the different topics on how to promote brain health on July 26th from 4:00-5:00 PM EST. This webinar will provide opportunities to learn how to take action, prioritize health equity, and shift policies to promote brain health for everyone.
The webinar will include an overview of the new HBI Road Map, discuss the new edition, and hear from members of the Leadership Committee about exciting developments in this new guidebook. Please register in advance.

This informational session allowed all attendees to learn about saving for today and retirement tomorrow and be mindful of financial pitfalls.
